Last week I turned 24.  So I asked friends, colleagues, and family what they think about 24.

“You have one more year before it’s socially unacceptable to get arrested.”

“That’s when I started gaining weight”

“It’s the year when you should really start thinking about getting married.” (coming from a 15 year old)

“It’s a prime age.  You’re young enough to still have fun, but old enough to control your own life.”

Very interesting observations about age 24.

In celebration of my birth I did a few things.

First: I got a puppy.  Isn’t he the cutest!

Second: I started a blog.  I think you figured that one out by now.

Third: I baked funfetti cupcakes with strawberry buttercream and a delicious chocolate cake with rasberry preserves and vanilla buttercream to share with friends.  The cake was ok, but I think the all-star of the night was definitely the cupcakes.  The buttercream was oh-so-delicious, and as always, the funfetti from a box was a crowd pleaser.  One day I’ll figure out homemade version of funfetti; but for now, the boxed stuff is just so darn good.

Funfetti Cupcakes

Read directions on box.

Strawberry Buttercream

1 cup (2 sticks) of butter

3.5 cups confectioner’s sugar

1 t. vanilla

3 T. pureed whole strawberries (if frozen, thaw first)

Cream butter in stand mixer until smooth and fluffy.  Add sugar slowly.  Add vanilla.  Finally add strawberry puree.  Don’t feel guilty about tasting it to make sure you have enough strawberry flavor.
